Beyond Petroleum, or BP as it has b¬een known to union for the better part of the last five decades has been around as a phoner for over 100 years. The start of the company can be attributed to William Knox DArcy, who in 1900 agreed to range his vast fortune into the exploration of minerals and oils in Persia. In revision to explore this vast land, DArcy had to negotiate with Mozaffar al-Din Shah Qajar, who was the leader of Persia at the time. The two sides reached a concession in May of 1901, which instituted a 66 year agreement that DArcy and his police squad of explorers could front a 480,000 square foot area of land. The concession stipulated that DArcy would have the rights to any oil or minerals found in all of Persia, except in 5 provinces in the northerly region. What the Persian government would receive in return for the border of depending the land was a 16 percent thinning of all revenues earned by the oil company (First Oil, 2011 p.1). later the two sides reached an agreement, William Knox DArcy sent a drilling team to Persia to begin the search. This teams funding came solely from DArcy, and George B. Reynolds was the leader of this research team.

The search began in 1903 with less and then stellar results in the first year, and the money DArcy invested was campaign low and the team needed more money to lead the operation. The search team received this money from the Burmah Oil Company. The search continued until 1908, when the team was nearly bankrupt yet again and ready to give up. Their fortunes changed on May 26th 1908, when at a depth of 1,180 feet, oil shot up from the ground. inside a year, Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC) was founded as a adjunct of the Burmah Oil Company, and William Knox DArcy was named Director.
