Red Scarf Girl by Ji-Li Liang
Ji-Li is Chinese girl who grew up during Communism in China. She was 12 when it started to get worse and 14 when it ended. Adored by t come forth ensemble teachers, she had straight As. She was determined to the best in everything. She is a born leader and students liked to follow her around. Students would come to her when they unavoidable help. Since she had a preindicationkeeper and didnt have to do housework, she wanted to deplumate the hardest labor works in the school. She needed peoples approval to make for sure she was doing something right. Ji-Li is full of pride and cleart stand when people gossip about her. When she was criticized of her dissever status and being called a black whelp, she stayed home and tried to avoid those people. In the end, Ji-Li accepted who she was and was proud to help her family.
fit in to Chairman Mao, the Communist Leader, anyone who was associated with landlords were considered evil. Ji-Lis granddad was a landlord. Her nanna was shunned from society because she was landlord wife. Since their class status was black, it was inevitable that their house would be searched. This made Ji-Li realize how bad her family was considered. This is the point in the book where she hates anything to do with her family.

When her classmates find out what kind of status she has, they avoid her completely. They even turn against her and make absurd claims about her like her brain is like her grandfathers and they shouldnt trust her. When her home gets searched she is in disbelief.
When Ji-Lis father was arrested, her whole world turns around. She learns about the past and learns to argue her family rather pretend they werent there.
