The average American life expectancy has improved by nearly 30 years since 1900, the majority
of the tribute is due to the works of worldly concern wellness (Ten great public health achievements--United
States, 1900-1999, 1999). An advanced send public health nurse (APPHN) is devoted to
providing nursing tuition that benefits the public health as a whole by providing care to vulnerable
creations, offering health education, preventative care, and other run to the communities
to promote malady prevention and greater health. The goals of this paper is to set aside an
overview of the APPHN role, explain its historical background, discuss the requirements for
licensure, evaluate a conceptual framework for practice, discuss how the framework guides
practice, and state recommendations by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.




Overview of the Advanced Practice Public Health Nurse
The role of the APPHN is population-centered, with focus on the community as a whole
with a strong importance on health promotion, primary disease prevention, and program
management for at-risk populations (American Nurses Association, 2007). APPHNs are
involved in leadership positions such as education, population-level care, health preparedness,
program development & consultation, research, administration & management, and public
policy. APPHNs are amend on the masters level with adequate supply and knowledge to
promote quality care and eradicate population health disparities.
Two great nursing leaders in history such as Lillian Wald and Florence nightingale
achieved major contributions in public health (Savage & Kub, 2009). Through her work on
